PREVIEW - Bitterley Races Saturday 5th April

Can the progressive Glenmount complete a recent hat-trick of victories for trainer Julie Wadland when lining up for the Mixed Open at Bitterley on Saturday (April 5th)

The seven-year-old races in the colours of syndicate, The 360 Racing Club, one of whom is the current PPA Chairman Paul Miller, and has been well placed by Wadland to date this season.

His two previous successes have come at Charm Park and Brocklesbury Park but he returns to the more familiar terrain of the West Mercian area on Saturday with hopes high he can add another victory to his tally.

However, if last year's Lady Dudley Cup hero Jeux D'Eau takes up his entry things will be harder for the selection, but Laura Richardson's charge has the option of Tabley 24 hours later where ground conditions may be more to his liking.

And talking of the going, Bitterley's clerk of the course Jim Squires is working flat out during this week to ensure the underfoot conditions at the Shropshire circuit are the best possible.

He said: "We are watering throughout the days leading up to the meeting and there will be going updates on a daily basis. I am aiming to produce good, safe jumping ground for the fixture."

The first race (Hunt Members) is scheduled for 12.30 and it has a fairly open look but Bestfriend Barnaby won the contest two years ago and there is every chance he can be involved at the business end again if bouncing back to something approaching his best.

A dark horse in the mix is Tzarmix , a winner under Rules, as he makes his debut for the Diana Ralph team. His new connections are based nearby and they would obviously be keen to have a winner at the local course.

Crawter would be of plenty of interest in the Conditions (Level 3) contest away from his beloved Larkhill where he has won four times this season but he holds an alternative entry at Cherrybrook on Sunday and may wait for that.

Without Harriet Waight's charge in the line up the way may be open for Great Valley to make it three victories on the bounce as he ideally wants decent ground and that is what is likely to be the order of the day here.

Elle Est Beau made a winning start for the Luke Price team at Larkhill last Saturday and looks set to make a bold bid for a quick follow up in the Restricted race but dangers abound in a tight looking contest.

Both Ideal Du Tabert (entered at Tabley and Sheriff Hutton) and Punch Perfect, who posted an improved effort when winning recently at Buckfastleigh and the form has been boosted with the runner-up scoring since.

Husband Guy maybe among the winners earlier on the card and wife Iola Sankey can join the club in the Conditions Race for Novice Riders where she is due to partner Blagthebookies.

The seven-year-old stayed on dourly to score on his previous outing at Bangor-On-Dee and appears to have been found a decent opportunity to strike again while the iron is hot.

The Five Years Old And Over Maiden has a very winnable look about it and the pin has fallen on Shuile Warrior who has shown enough in the past to warrant a second look in a race such as this.

The Flat Race which concludes the card is the usual guessing game with little or no previous form on show. Perhaps Glendover, who only got as far as the first bend at Maisemore last weekend before parting company with his rider, is worth another chance.
