This weekend it is Cherrybrook’s turn to hold their annual Point to Point. The course joins onto the tail end of the Kilworthy track that was raced on a couple weeks ago. Gates open at 11am with 7 competitive races with the first due off at 1:30pm. Entry costs £15 per person and dogs are welcome on leads. Postcode PL19 0LA.

Condy Mathias Accountants Maiden Race

The opening race of the day has 10 entries and looks to be fairly competitive. Nelson Criq has finished 3rd on three occasions for leading trainer Joshua Newman and could supply Terry Hamlin and John Gardener with another winner. Zalando ran with huge credit to finish 2nd to Jetsmart at Kilworthy and would be very deserving to get his head in front for Pauline Geering. What’s Up Harry nearly ran the field into submission at Buckfastleigh but was collared at the end of the race to finish a close 3rd. If he can repeat this form it would be good enough to be in the mix for Edward Rees. Dawn Supreme has not been seen since October 2023 when running very well in an Irish Point and could give John Heard his 2nd winner of the season. Of the others, One Tree Hill (Louise Kittow) ran well at Charlton Horethorne to finish 3rd and Luke Price’s Scoro has finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th this season and will be looking to get the gelding by Petillo, home infront.

The Spooners Supporters Restricted

Liwah has run three career bests so far this season and really deserves to get her head in front but trainer Josh Newman has 4 entered and declarations should be kept an eye on as to what Josh is running and what he is aboard. Of his others, Outside Adesa was a winner at Charlton Horethorne, Punch Perfect took the Maiden at Buckfastleigh and Noble Blue could come here with a 5lb penalty having already won a Restricted at the first Buckfastleigh meeting. Elle Est Beau, for the Luke Price and James King duo, was a comfortable winner of a Maiden at Larkhill only 8 days previous in a match race. She had very solid form when being trained by Dan Skelton and it will be interesting to see how she gets on with more competition. Do Whatever once cost €70,000 as a foal and after a short racing stint in the famous Green and Gold colours, ended up with the Treneer family. He would certainly be a well celebrated winner for Barney Treneer if he can improve on his last outing.

GSP Solutions Owner Trainer Conditions

Harriet Waight has the ever-improving Crawter entered and if not taking up his engagements at Bitterley the day before, will be a fairly short favourite here and could give champion seeking jockey, Joshua Newman another winner in the saddle. He has won three races this season and this definitely looks like he could make it a fourth! Of his competitors, Raddon Top would need to defy a 7lb penalty and run somewhere near the form when finishing 2nd behind Lucky Lara at Chipley. The half-brother to Chantry House, Millbank Flyer, would also need to put his best foot forward to give Crawter something to think about.

The Kirkwood Family Mixed Open

Rocheston has provided both Hannah Morgan and Joshua Newman winners in the saddle this season while owner Purdy Peaster is on the sidelines and could tot up three wins on the bounce if coming here. He would appreciate a bit more cut in the ground, as would Tip Top Mountain, who won at the opening meeting of the season at Dunsmore and could be a first ride for Tilly Garton. Stadmallen has been a brilliant horse for Heidi McCreesh and The McCreesh Racing Club and could run into a place. Divilskin has the option of this race or the Cherrybrook Chance Conditions Race and could provide Tom Malone with another winner for the season. Teescomponentsfly has not been in the winner’s enclosure for 18 months and it would be lovely to see him run well for Mike Vanstone and Jack Stenhouse.

TRW Engineering Cherrybrook Chance Conditions (Level 2)

Lakota Warrior and Jubertilee both have the option of the TRW Engineering Cherrybrook Chance Conditions (Level 2) or the Members Race later in the day. Jake Bament is booked to ride both and both could head the market if taking their chance. Lakota Warrior was last seen at Buckfastleigh finishing 2nd to Duc de Beauchene, who has since scored again at Trebudannon. Jubertilee put his mishap of running out at Wadebridge behind him and finished 5th behind Norton Hill in the Stayers Mixed Open at Cothelstone over 3m4f. Sake Of Secrecy can handle the quicker going and could be a winner outside the Wessex Area for Harriet Waight. Divilskin posted a good first run for Tom Malone when 2nd by a neck to Unknown Soldier but has pulled up twice since and will need to be back to his best to win this.

Jockey Club Conditions For Grassroots Riders

Although 20 lengths behind First Lord de Cuet, Honestlyntrufully ran a very pleasing race to finish 3rd for Chloe Newman at Buckfastleigh and will find this race much easier than his previous run. It would be a welcome winner for both Chloe and Jack Stenhouse. Smithscorner for Gordon Chambers and owner Jenny Luscombe, is yet to get around this season but ran into several placings last season and could be another to find this race an easier target. Mad For Action finished 2nd at Ston Easton and Ballinoulart is yet to win a Maiden. He had decent form on his first two outings this season but seems to have lost form since.

Greatrex Racing Members Race

The final race of the day could go the way of Gordon Chambers, who has been a huge supporter of the area. He has acquired the popular veteran, Peacocks Secret, who ran very well under Fionn Summers at Kilworthy to finish 2nd in the Open. Master McShine did not look to enjoy the quicker going at Kilworthy and was disappointingly pulled up and this could be the same case here with a dry looking forecast. Emma Summersby is double entered with Lakota Warrior and Jubertilee who have both won 4 races apiece and shown good enough form to be winning here.
